Your Gifts Make A Difference!QOC needs financial support to enhance our outreach programs and our campaigns to keep public lands accessible to orienteers. We need your help. This page outlines some of the many ways that financial contributions may be made. Support Quantico Orienteering's Annual Fund Campaign.
Make a gift in honor or in memory of your favorite orienteer, outdoor person, or park.
Give a gift of stock.A gift of long-term, appreciated securities (stock, bonds, or mutual fund shares) allows you to claim the full fair market value of the stock as a tax deduction. Often, you can also avoid paying capital gains tax. You may also choose to sell stock that has lost value and donate the proceeds from the sale. You can then deduct the capital loss, as well as the amount of the sale of the stock. To make a gift of stock, please contact Greg Lennon, the QOC President, at (301) 922-3791 or send him an This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Leave a legacy.Drawing up your estate plans is an intensely personal decision -- with family, legal, and tax implications that should be thought through carefully. Naming a charity in your will provides you with a way to make a lasting contribution to a cause you care about. If you're considering including QOC (or USOF) in your estate plans, we would be happy to discuss various options with you. Please either contact directly, or have your attorney contact, the QOC President, at (301) 922-3791 or via This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it for a confidential discussion of this very important subject. Although certainly not the only means to leave a legacy to QOC, bequests and life insurance may be of interest to you. BequestsA bequest can be made now with no impact on your current income. It can be done simply by asking your attorney to add a paragraph to your will in the form of a codicil. You can specify an amount of money, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder of your estate after you have taken care of your loved ones. You can specify that QOC would receive a bequest after your spouse, children, parents or other primary beneficiaries are provided for, or in the event they do not survive you. In addition to helping your favorite charity, your estate will receive an estate tax charitable deduction for the value of your bequest. We would be happy to work with you and your advisors to develop bequest language and an endowment description that will benefit you and QOC. We also have a sample codicil which you may consider adding to your will; please contact us for a copy. Life InsuranceQOC has two life insurance gift options:
Special ProjectsQOC is also working to raise private support for several important initiatives: Schools CampaignMany local school districts would welcome orienteering into their curricula if the hurdles to introducing the sport to their teachers, students and administrators were lower. QOC's Schools Campaign is designed to do this, through an innovative yet proven program that can be introduced county wide at one time. This program combines creating orienteering maps of the schools grounds for all schools within a county, and then using experienced instructors to "teach the teachers" just prior to the start of a school year. Subjects such as geography, physical education, and outdoor/environmental studies are all encompassed in this program with the richness that the orienteering experience can offer. With the help of dedicated funding, QOC can launch this program in a local county. Please click here to donate to The Schools Campaign. Wheels CampaignMany school children and city residents who would enjoy orienteering if only they could get to our events are stymied by the lack of adequate public transportation. QOC's Wheels Campaign is a special fund dedicated solely to offering ways for youth and others without cars to be transported to our local parks, through a diverse collection of means ranging from van rentals to chartered buses. Private funding will ensure our ability to help introduce our wonderful sport to individuals and groups who otherwise rarely get to our local parks.
